Mistborn Era Two Cosplay: Lessie
Set about 300 years after the original Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, the books of Mistborn Era Two are fast passed stories. I enjoyed that and was surprised by the change in tempo from the books in Era One, but I think it fits the gun slinging, late Victorian hullabaloo portrayed in the Wax and Wayne books.
Considering a second cosplay costume from the Mistborn Era two books was kind of hard for me. There are at least three heroines I thought of off the top of my head, plus several other complex and interesting characters/creatures to consider.
I settled on Lessie. We don’t see a lot of her character, but I felt like her story is important. Just read the beginning of The Alloy of Law and we’ll be pretty square. I think that Lessie is a cowgirl, roaming the wild west with her partner.
Now that I was seriously considering a Lessie Mistborn Era Two cosplay, I had to wrestle with her character and consider who she is, what her motivations are. RAFO for the rest of the Wax and Wayne books if you haven’t done so already. But if you have read them, you’ll understand why needed to chew on this decision for a while. It took me a couple weeks to think about it. But, once I was ready to commit to Lessie as my next Mistborn cosplay costume, I was excited.
At the very start of Lessie’s cosplay costume, I decided to make a list. I love lists! Lists about new costumes are extra fun. Starting out, I tried to think through the main components I would need to make this costume and made a list of must haves:
A Mistcoat – that would be fun to try
A cowboy hat
Boots
Simple buttoned shirt and jeans
Probably a sling bag for holding stuff while wearing the Lessie costume
Then I thought through extra accessories that would be cool to make if I had time:
A bandana
Maybe a vest?
A belt
How about a revolver and a holster?
Maybe a bandoleer with ammo
I don’t think Lessie used dueling canes, but that would be neat to consider.
