Sylvie Loki: Putting the Bracers Together Part 3

Alright, now it’s time to add the newly painted EVA Foam armor to my fabric arm bracers for Sylvie’s costume!

Now to attach the EVA Foam armor to Sylvie’s bracers. This step didn’t have too many components, but it involved some wait time…

First off, to attach the armor pieces for these cosplay bracers, I used a flexible glue called Aleen’s Super Fabric Adhesive. I applied that liberally to the back of the foam armor pieces and squashed it down onto the bracer. I did try to pay attention to make sure I didn’t have excess glue overspilling.

I also had to pay attention to the left and right arm and which piece of armor coordinated to which fabric bracer. I had to check my alignment several times, because they are mirror images, and are not exactly the same.

Next was a setup to help the glue cure and to help the foam stay close to the fabric and not pull away while the glue was drying.

To do this, I used some and some bean bags - those are supposed to go in the microwave to heat up and help keep my toes warm, but they’re also heavy and moldable. That makes these rice-filled-bean-bags perfect to support while helping it retain the concave shape that I had worked so hard to put in with my heat gun.

Now the part that took the most time on this step - waiting. I had to wait overnight for the glue to dry on Sylvie’s bracers. Cue the Jeopardy song!

Then after the first round of glue dried, I put a few touch ups to make sure the EVA foam armor was adhering like I wanted in case I had missed some small spots and the bracer was pulling away from the fabric.

As I am writing this post, I feel proud of myself because this is the first time, I melted a sewn fabric design with an EVA Foam armor addition like this. I’m pleased with how these cosplay bracers for Sylvie from the Marvel Loki series turned out. But this glue does take overnight to dry, so there might be some faster drying options for flexible bonding glues.
